IT’S ALL KICKING off in Kilkenny.
According to the Kilkenny People, the city centre has been menaced by pigeons since the recent demolition of some buildings at the Smithwicks brewery.
The report says business owners are very unhappy about the “sheer number of pigeons” that have suddenly taken roost in their premises – but the photo caption also asks an important question: Are pigeons misunderstood?
Are they just misunderstood? Should the business owners just chill out?
The issue was brought up in a meeting of Kilkenny County Council earlier this week by Cllr Michael McCarthy, who said:
The amount of pigeon droppings, numbering in the thousands, is the main source of concern from an environmental and health viewpoint. The cost that incurs from cleaning is enormous.
“Numbering in the thousands”. Does Kilkenny have a designated pigeon-dropping counter? Because that is huge if true.
Unfortunately, it appears that no solution has been reached as of yet, leaving the pigeons to continue their reign of terror over Kilkenny.
It’s Hitchcockian down there. Take care.
